This next location is sure to hit the bullseye if you love sports, competition, or unique experiences. That’s right: this week we are focusing on Ace Archers, an archery range in Foxborough.
I want to preface this by saying that I certainly am not a master at archery. Though I’ve been to Ace Archers a few times before writing this post, I have only the most basic knowledge of how to shoot a bow and arrow. So even if you are as clueless as I am, you will still have a great time. Archers of all skill levels will find something to love at Ace Archers.
I took advantage of Ace Archers’ hour-long open shooting sessions. With this, you’ll be able to rent all the supplies needed for archery, including a bow and arrow, as well as get instruction from a more advanced archer. Even though I came in with basically no idea how to nock an arrow, I improved quickly with the assistance of an employee.
When you enter the building, one of the first things you’ll notice are the dozens of archery-related products available for purchase.
One of the coolest things that I noticed inside the store are the arrows hanging on the back wall. At first glance, they seem perfectly normal. But if you look closer, you’ll see that what you thought was a single arrow are actually two arrows attached to each other. An arrow can be shot so accurately that it actually splits another arrow already on the target. Fittingly, this is called a “Robin Hood.” One of the most amazing parts of this is the sheer number of times this has happened, with dozens of arrows hanging from the walls.
The price of the experience is amazing for what you get. The price of an hour of open shooting is $14 or $16 with equipment rental. The employees running open shooting are amazing, and will help you learn and adjust if you are having trouble. But if you want a more in-depth experience, they also offer 8-week instructional sessions, Discover Archery Classes, and Video Coaching. No matter your experience or interest, they certainly have an option for you.
Archery is a little hard to get the hang of at first—I had my fair share of arrows miss the target entirely. But as long as you can laugh at yourself a little and keep trying, you’ll notice that you get better with every round. The employees make sure to help you if you are having any trouble. I was having issues with the string snapping back on my arm, making it uncomfortable to shoot the arrows. Fortunately, I was taught how to tilt my arm correctly so it stopped happening.
And not to brag, but I did manage to hit a few bulls eyes. Believe me—if I can do it, so can you. With enough practice, you’ll be the next Katniss Everdeen or Legolas in no time.
Ace Archers is indoors, which of course increases the risk of transmitting COVID. But I would never recommend a place that I do not believe is safe, and Ace Archers did a great job with the COVID precautions. You have to reserve your spot ahead of time through their website if you want to do open shooting so the amount of people is limited. When we went, there were at most 5 other people in the range, all with plenty of space between them. They also thoroughly sanitize all archery equipment. To find out more information about their COVID protocals or to book an open shooting session, visit their website linked below.
Though I had a ton of fun, I think I’ll stick to shooting photographs instead of arrows.
